The Portland Base

This English base served as the major repair facility and pre d-day home for the PT Boats in the English Channel. This base was located in several places on Portland Bill south to Weymouth. The base personnel created a tent city as a home and the PT crews were billeted on their boats but had meals at the tent city. All Squadron 34 boats were in Portland from the 24th of May to the 31st of May being made fully operational ahead of the historic D-day invasion.
